Visiting local farm shops

Stanley's farm shop

Exploring the recipe's

This recipe "easy peasy purple broccoli gratin" was more interesting to make than the eggy bread, and more complex. It took longer to make and can be approached in a variety of ways. I feel that a lot more adult help is needed here as most of the steps are involving heat. the only part really the child could help with or perform themselves is the crushing up of anchovies, pouring the cream, adding salt and pepper and stirring the sauce. The cutting up of ingredients such as garlic, and broccoli, or even adding some of the ingredients mentioned might be hard de to the pan being on the heat. I chose to make my own breadcrumbs as i felt this would be more interactive for children as they could tear up the bread and push the buttons to turn the processor on.
After trying the breadcrumbs i actually chose to add some locally sourced cheese from "stanleys farm shop" this made the topping a lot more tasty. Initially i thought the recipe was quite bland.
For this recipe, I could create characters that are appropriate however such as broccoli people/faces. Especially with the purple sections, it could appear like the hair of one of these characters was purple.
